What’s Flip Pallot up to these days? Miss his show Walker’s Cay Chronicles.Flip’s show may have been a little drawn out but they always captured me. I have a lot of respect for flip, he’s not with Hell’s Bay Boatworks any longer. It would rock if they brought back Walker Cay’s Chronicles!

Jose Wejebe

Wouldn’t you say Jose Wejebe is Saltwater fishings icon of the sport?

Who wishes Jose still chartered. I couldn’t imagine how incredible it would be to go fishing in Key West harbor with Captain Wejebe. His website is bad ass http://www.spanishflytv.com/

Jose’s Bio was a very interesting read, I didn’t know they fled from cuba.

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1958, Jose Wejebe and family fleeing Fidel Castros’ revolution moved to South Florida to start a new life. Growing up in Miami, Jose Wejebe cut his teeth on the waters of South Florida. After his first experience with fins and a snorkel, it was a life changing experience that marked the beginning of Jose’s marine based career and life.

After encounters with fishing greats and pioneers, Jose learned from the best including Stu Apt, Flip Pallot and Lefty Kreh. His travels and passion for learning new fishing and rigging techniques took him all over the world where he learned new and non-traditional methods.

Jose took this knowledge back to his home waters of the Florida Keys and shared it with his charter clients and leaders among the fishing industry. Building relationships with trade leaders such as Shimano, Mercury and other boat companies, Jose was an intetgral part in the development of the booming light-takcle industry.

After joining long-time friend Flip Pallot for the filming of several episodes of Walker’s Cay Chronicles, Jose was approached by producer, Jerry McKinnis, to star in his own show on the brand-new ESPN2 network.

In 1995, the first episode of Spanish Fly was aired. Filled with breathtaking underwater footage, spectacular cinematography, complimentary editing and Jose’s signature on-screen style, the show shot to the top of the ratings. The light-tackle saltwater guru showed viewers each week a unique interactive style of fishing that no one had done before. He used techniques that he learned throughout his travels and continues to do so today.

Added in 2001, Jose debuted a new, unique “short show” on ESPN called Vida Del Mar (meaning “life of the sea”). It is a 2-4 minute vignette that reflects an intriguing perspective on how life below the surface can make us all better fishermen.

While not filming Spanish Fly, Jose finds time to work for several charities including Make a Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He feels strongly the importance of taking the time to fish with kids and teach the next generation of anglers. In the present day, Jose Wejebe enjoys his new passion of flying private aircraft. He also continues to explore unchartered fishing grounds and expand his knowledge for local fishing techniques.

Captain Blair Wiggins

Another Fishing host that inspires me to go fishing.

”Mogan Man”

He’s the kind of guy you’d want on “your island.” As a professional guide for 12 years, and a full-time outdoorsman since birth, Capt. Blair has made his livelihood on the water.

That’s why the show’s format was created in-part to promote and support the guide industry that afforded him this career opportunity. He is conservation-minded, and works to ensure our future will enjoy the same plentiful waters as he did by practicing and teaching “catch and release” principles. His contagious style is a cross between the in-your-face-style of Pro-Wrestling and the crazy antics of the Crocodile Hunter. Children seem to gravitate towards him the most.

The Mogan Man is real, and possesses “child-like” qualities that make him approachable to people of all ages.

I think Blair is sometimes a little over the top but his shows are very entertaining. I still think Jose Wejebe makes me want to travel more and Jose seems to make it less about the fish and more about the experience. I still give blair a B!

Fishing Inspiration

Jose Wejebe

Nothing inspires me more to go fishing then watching Spanish Fly with Captain Jose Wejebe on ESPN!

He goes on the best fishing trips around the world, catches the coolest fish and seems like a genuine guy.

I saw he has a whole series called the Road less Traveled on Costa’s website. It’s Pretty cool. The Kite surfing seems a little dangerous for someone his age but heck its Jose.

Kiteboarding is a new water-sport that incorporates elements of windsurfing and wakeboarding. Basically a rider uses a kite and the power of the wind to propel themselves across the water on a board similar to a wakeboard.
